Our “Get to Know the Business Owner” post today is Carolin Tolkamp from The Holland Shop.
I was born and raised in Guelph, the second daughter of Ralph and Theresa Fledderus. Theresa was the second daughter of Engel and Mary Huisman, the original owners of the store. They started in the early 50’s as a home delivery to the Dutch immigrants in the area, and expanded to a storefront in 1954. In 1955 they moved it to its present location. I bought the shop from my parents in 1990, so I have owned it for 31 years.
The pandemic has been challenging for us, like everyone, but we are well supported by our amazing and far-reaching clientele. We serve not only Acton, but also the surrounding areas, and have some of the best deli meat around. We also make great sandwiches as many will tell you.
