Our “Get to Know the Business Owner” post today is Nancy Wilkes from Acton Optical.
I, Nancy, grew up in Mississauga and my daughter Nicole grew up in Acton. I have been a Registered Optician for over 40 years however opened my business downtown 16 years ago. My daughter, Nicole, started working here at 14 and then attended college to become an Optician. She has been a Registered Optician for 6 years now. I started my business in downtown Acton because I saw the potential for a small independent optical. I always thought “small town service, big city selection.” In the 16 years we’ve been in business all 3 of our locations have been in the downtown core. 8 years ago to further commit ourselves to downtown Acton I purchased the former Baptist Church which houses our business. We have been extremely fortunate during Covid. We were closed from March 2020 to June 2020 otherwise we have been able to stay open with strict covid protocols – booking by appointment only for eye exams, eyeglass selections as well as adjustments and repairs, sanitizing every frame as patients try them on, sign in sheet, etc.
