Our “Get to Know the Business Owner” post today is Linda Squires from Acton Jiu-Jitsu. They are opening back up this weekend.
Hi there! I am Linda Squires, owner and chief instructor of Acton Jiu-Jitsu. I am a 6th degree black belt in the martial art of Jiu-Jitsu.
My credentials have been earned from the Canadian/Ontario Jiu-Jitsu Associations. I earned my 1st degree in 1990, shortly thereafter I was elected to the Board of Directors where I served for many years, eventually becoming the President for a few years.
I trained with and taught with my instructor in Milton for 15 years and decided in 1996 it was time to teach full time on my own. I founded Acton Jiu-Jitsu and taught in Prospect Park at the “boathouse” for 3.5 years, saw that my current location on Mill Street was available. Since then, opening was Mar 1, 2000!!!
I have had the honour and the privilege of teaching and living in Acton and love this town and it’s families!
I should also say I spent many years teaching self defence classes to Phys Ed classes in high schools throughout Halton Region and I taught children and adults with disabilities for two agencies, all while “growing” Acton Jiu-Jitsu!
The pandemic has all but decimated my club, I retired from the other groups and focused totally on my club. I have relied upon savings and loans to stay afloat unlike many of my colleagues who were forced to close.
